Welcome to synthIT, a collection of synthesizer performances & live electronics on a modern day modular systems. I hope to later add classic & vintage synthesizers & computer sound constructions as well, but right now the synthIT project is focused on the analog modular synthesizer. The main part of the noise, is a P22 modular synthesizer, made possible by synthesizers.com. Other modules, preamps & effects are used to create this music. I will continue to use this page as a presentation for my compositions & sound synthesis work. In the future I hope to expand these pages to the many areas of synthesizer music composition that I enjoy. Please enjoy listening to the tracks on the soundclick player and reading the song descriptions on this page.

Dirty Triangles - This is a patch across my modular that plays it's self. This recording was made over twelve hours after it started. The patch starts with Pink Noise hard sync'd into oscillator1 with it's TRIANGLE output fed into the Q149 signal selector. Here the Triangle signal is coupled with NOISE from a Sequential Circuit ProONE (hence the name DIRTY TRIANGLE). This trianle noise source is fed into the audioIN of the Q117 Sample & Hold. The Q117 audioOUT is fed into the Q105 slew. The output of the Q105 feeds into the 1v/octave input of oscillator2. Oscillator2 is also being modulated by oscillator3 (set to LFO) fed into it's linear frequency input. Finally the sine & saw outputs of oscillator2 are fed into two filters for final adjustment. The sine output of oscillator2 is fed into the Q107 state variable filter & the saw of oscillator2 is fed into the Oakley COTA filter. The final mix is done on both sides of the Q113 and the Q113 Pan/Fade module was used as well. This patch filled the house with constantly changing patterns. Eventually we had to pull the plug. : (

delta wave - (112408) A second Q107 Oscillator was soft syncD to the Q141 Oscillator Aid and the sequence was playD out on the Q147 State Variable Filter. Great choppy waves!

Escape - (030209) There is something perfect about the soundtrack to John Carpenter's movie "Escape from New York". The score by John and Allan Howarth is so simple & yet so full of atmosphere. I haven't been able to get the dark melodys of the movie out of my head and so perfect for analog synthesis. My emu-XL7 drum machine is driving the track, the P22 plays the main melody and a Korg wavestation is striking the chime. I hope to get more of these types of tracks out, super fun!

Voltasaur - (032209) Trying to get to where I can manipulate two audio signals at once on my now dual cab synth.com P22. The openning modulation on this track is the Q117 (sample&hold) into a single Q106, into the Q107 and last into the MOTM-190. The accompanied noisier tone, or second signal is a midi triggerD Q106a pulse wave with a second Q106b ramp wave into the exponential frequency of the first Q106a. This tone filterD by the Q150 and then into the Q108. Though hard to control for solid composition, I do achieve two distinct tones working my two distinct amp modules; the synth.com Q108 & the synthtech MOTM-190. My conclusion: the MOTM-190 is "SCARY LOUD" and has a distinct realism about the sound, the Q108 is an audiophile's clarity dream, with what seems like no noise.

February - (020309) The first Q106 is a RAMP, the second Q106 is a saw & the third Q106 is a pulse connected to the second Q106's linear frequency IN. The first Q106 signal out goes to the Q107, & the second Q106 signal out goes to the Q150. The Q107, low pass out to the Q108 AMP. The Q150, -24db out to the MOTM-190VCA. The Q150 & the MOTM-190VCA to the Q111, pan/fade. I tried describing the patch this way because I don't have a easy patch sheet for my now dualcab P22 system. This recording barely does the sound I was hearing justice. A collision of quality AMP modules, the Q150 has got the clarity & the MOTM-190 has got the tone. When I increased the controll voltage and moved the Q111"pan/fade"(fade selected) from the front to back positions, the distortion sounds created were pretty intense.

Apparition - simple, beautiful & deep. Single Q106 into the ladder filter adding alittle delay into the source as the track progresses.

El regalo de Navidad - A .com MoogN tone and style improv, right hand. A Korg Wavestation EX for the left hand horny strings section. The duality between vector synthesis of the Korg and the analog tones of the .com modular creates an excellent set of tones in this track. I spent hours playing with these two tones together.

frequency creatures - First Oscillator set to pulse, second Osc set to triangle & soft syncD to First Osc. Both Q109 Envs are being used, with the release dial on my Q109 (jumpD to max) set to 9. During this piece I work the Q107 knobs, the soft sync & frequency knobs on my first Osc. The swelling effect heard throughout, is me working the volume pedal on the BOSS me-50, with a slight phaser and delay added. No sequencer was used. With my keyboard latch on, I pressed E7, ONCE. For the most part the patch diagram is the same as the one for 120108, just with both envelopes in play. This song was titled "voltage creatures" & used on the ROBO CAST Radio podcast episode 31.

110808 - A sequence that is the first recorded sounds of this P22 system, about three days after delivery. Delay was added. The proteus procussion module was used. I am just wandering around on the active knobs so labeled on the patch diagram in the pictures section.

110808b - A sequence that is the first recorded sounds of this P22 system, about three days after delivery. More delay was added than that of version A. The proteus procussion module was used & altered. I am just wandering around on the active knobs. Same as version A, but different.

111908 - Simple fun sequence. PlayN around with the Q107 State Variable Filter. The BOSS ME-50 (COSM) is helping to broaden the monophonic speaker tone into the mixer. You can notice at about 1min50 my increase of the control level on the amplifier just a bit, this action really pops out the delay setting on the ME-50, rather touchE!

112008 - This final texture is a combination of the P22 + the Novation Supernova and the Waldorf Q. The overall sound just started coming together as I was trying to get a mixed balance in my mixer. The control room volume in my studio was pretty loud & scary.

112608 - A bagpipe/wind sound type. A play on the Q109 and the Q105 slew limiter.

120108 - Patch diagram in the pic section. TweekN the Q107 with a second oscillator soft syncD to the Q141. All volume swells were done directley mixing on the P22s active knobs during the performance. The radio crackles in the middle were just some crazy point found while mixing the knobs, awesome!
